Help decide on the labels UI

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

There have been quite a few requests for label support in Torrent-fu. I’m currently working on adding support for labels in uTorrent and some filtering in Transmission that acts like labels by using statuses (view downloading, seeding, paused …)

For those who desire labels:

How would you like the labels UI to operate?

Version 1.5.8 In Android Market

Monday, January 18th, 2010

1.5.8 Update: Color coded progress bars, IO File Manager and ES File Explorer can now send files to Torrent-fu from SD card. Update to custom search providers that allows non query based RSS to be searched. I think this will be the last update for a week or two (hopefully in that time i can integrate private trackers.)

Thanks to everyone for the insights and help!

I’ll try to put together a tutorial on custom search providers soon.

Version 1.5.6 Brings Themes

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

I posted about themes earlier this week, and now they are here! The update is in the Android Market and also brings a fix for auto-rotation.

Themes peek

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I’ve gotten a few requests to bring the old UI back, and to keep the peace I’ve decided to add themes. I have created 4 simple themes that I like: 2 based off the current design and 2 based off the old UI. All fresh and new. You’ll be able to change themes in the preferences screen. Look for a market update with them soon.

Here they are, let me know what you think:

New UI Comprimise?

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I’ve gotten mixed responses on the new UI. In order to keep everyone happy I’m toying with the idea of making the theme selectable.

Let me know what you think.

High-Resolution UI quirk

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I just checked torrent-fu on a Droid and there was a small cosmetic issue. The new quick menu buttons were not aligning at the bottom of the screen. I’ll post a fix later tonight. 1.5.4 here we come ;)

Quadruple shot update v1.5.3

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I released version 1.5 to the market tonight, then quickly had to run 3 updates: 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 then 1.5.3. The first fixed a small bug with the new UI (the custom search providers menu item was pushing you to the tutorial.) Then torrentmonkeys.com changed their rss search, which effectively broke compatibility with torrent-fu and was causing searches to run extremely long (waiting to timeout,) so I removed torrentmonkeys search support. Finally, a bug fix for when all search providers were disabled. All looks good now.

Here’s a quick feature list of 1.5.3:

  • new ui (let me know what you think)
  • quick toolbar at the bottom of the main screens: initiate a search from manage, jump to manage from search, quickly access prefs, etc
  • disable built in search providers
  • Transmission 1.8 support
  • Sort torrents in the manage screen by % complete

I’ll post some more new stuff soon.

Transmission 1.8 beta incompatibility

Friday, January 8th, 2010

I got a report today that the beta version of Torrent-fu won’t show downloads (the manage screen) in Transmission 1.8 beta. Thanks to a vigilant user we have tracked the bug down to a change in the RPC spec for version 1.8. Expect an update to correct the problem soon. Thanks go out to Austin for the help!

Server crash, some data lost

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Just a quick update: My server crashed this evening, which temporarily stopped the website and bar code lookups. While I was able to recover most of the data for the site and the upc/ean database, some was lost (posts, comments). The server that failed was also where my Git repository for the Torrent-fu project was stored. Thankfully I had the source code backed up elsewhere and didn’t lose any progress on development outside of not being able to work on it tonight.

Everything should be back to normal now.

Needless to say I’ll be implementing a more aggressive backup strategy so this, hopefully, doesn’t happen again.

Torrent-fu in your language

Monday, October 5th, 2009

I Over the weekend I went through all the code for Torrent-fu and set up language support (internationalization) for the next release.

If anyone would like to translate Torrent-fu in to their language, you can download strings.xml and array.xml, translate them and give them back, I will add them to the app.
