After a bit of work this week, there is a new version of Torrent-fu. The new release is mostly a UI update, most notably the “Manage Torrents” screen now has progress bars and automatically refreshes at 5 second intervals so you don’t have to keep refreshing to track progress.

The other big update was browser integration support. Torrent-fu now uses 2 methods to get files to your computer: passing the URL to uTorrent and Uploading a .torrent file to uTorrent. The noticable difference between the two is how android handles them. If Torrent-fu can, it intercepts the URL of a .torrent file when you tap a link and sends it away to uTorrent. However, a lot of the time the browser was not passing mime type information on clicks that had redirects to torrents, the browser would download the file locally, but Torrent-fu could not use it. Now it can, after download, the file should associate with Torrent-fu, so tapping on it should start Torrent-fu and prompt you to send the file.

Other than that there are new icons, a more descriptive UI, and better barcode scanning.

The target for v1.2 is 2 weeks from now.

Features planned so far are:

  • Better preferences with more options such as: number of results to return from each provider and multiple uTorrent profiles.
  • Sorting and better filtering in search results and torrent management views.
  • More UI updates.

Please report any bugs you find in the new verison, and thanks for using Torrent-fu.
